NUTRITION IN CHILDREN OF NIS AT PRIMARY SCHOOL ENROLLMENT IN 2020
Abstract
Introduction: Assessment of children's nutrition is of special importance due to the monitoring of growth and development and early recognition of malnutrition.
Aim: The aim of this paper is to analyse the nutrition of children at enrolliment to primary schools in 2020. The other objective was to compare the obtained results with the reports of systematic reviews in 2003, 2006 and 2009.
Material and methods: Retrospective analysis from health records of children born in 2013 and 2014. Current body height (TV) expressed in meters (m), body mass (TM) expressed in kilograms (kg) and a determined Body Mass Index (BMI) were used.
Results: The systematic examination included 959 children, 475 girls and 484 boys. The average age was 6 years and 4 months. Below the 3rd percentile of the BMI were 19 children (1.98%), 11 girls (2.31%) and 8 boys (1.65%) and were classified as malnourished. There were 214 (23.3%) children who were overfed with BMI from P85 to P97, 108 (22.74%) girls and 106 (21.19%) boys. Out of the total number of 125 (13.03%), 3 girls (6.94%) and 92 boys (19%) were assessed as obese.
Conclusion: There were a total of 325 (38.1%) overweight and obese in the examined group. Obesity prevention and treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach.
