Abstract

The long lasting struggle  against  the human immunodeficiency viruse (HIV) that causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS/SIDA has been 30 years old. First cases in Serbia were detected 1985 and ever since AIDS is treated accoridn to protocols given by World health organization. HIV infection is worldwide epidemic and one of the greatest challenges of health care systems. World AIDS Day, designated every 1st of December since 1988,  is an international day dedicated to awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. Main goal in HIV control disease in Serbia is to implement UNAIDS 90-90-90 strategy:  90% of all people living with HIV would be able to recognize their HIV status, would be diagnosed,  90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection would be able to receive sustained antiretroviral therapy, and  90% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy would be viral suppressed with no or little drug induced side effects, with good quality of life and without virus transmission.
