PROCEDURE AND CARE OF CHILDREN SUFFERING MEASLES – ROLE OF HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS IN PREVENTION

Morbili, measles (lat. morbilli - „small illness“) is viral, contagious disease, mainly occurs in childhood. The way of transmission is sick person. The infective period is 2-4 days before and 4 days after the rash occurs. The incubation period is 10-11 days with nos symptoms. Diagnosis is established upon typical clinical features, whiule antiboides reveal the late phase of infection. Specific therapy does not exist. The occurrence of disease and potential complications (pneumonia and encephalitis) could be prevented by vaccination in the second year of life. During the acute phase of illness the isolation of sick child is highly recommended. Health professionals should be protected if necessary to get in contact with sick child. Imunisation, early stage diagnosis and preventive measures with sick person and enviroment present the main rules for effective illness control..
