Abstract

Introduction: Immunization play a vital role in preventing diseases in children. Despite that, some of children remained unimmunized.

This study aimed to assess the level of immunization coverage and associated factors in the AP Vojvodina, Serbia.

Material and Methods: Using data of the Institute of Public Health of Vojvodina and of all other six local departments of Public Health across the AP Vojvodina, we analysed the immunization coverage of mandatory vaccines and reasons for missed opportunities in the AP Vojvodina in the period from 1997 to 2015.

Results: Vaccination coverages of all obligate vaccines in Vojvodina were high (above 95%), but the coverage of the sesond dose of MMR vaccine was between 87% (1997-2006) and 93% (2007-2015). Among the non-medical reasons, the highest proportion of missed opportunities to primo-vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps and rubella was caused by non-compliance. Lack of vaccines was the main reason for missed opportunities vaccination by HB, Hib and by vaccines which recomended before school entry (OPV, second dose of MMR vaccine).

Conclusion: Establishing of  the continuing availability of all vaccines and improving of education about vaccine safety among healthcare workers and parents are the main preconditions for the maintenance and increasing of immunization coverage in AP Vojvodina.
